At Yelcho en la Patagonia, the safety of our guests is a top priority. Below, we share essential information to follow in case of any emergency:
🧑⚕️ Trained Staff
All our team members — including restaurant, reception, cleaning, and maintenance staff — are trained in first aid. In addition, an automated external defibrillator (AED) is available at the hotel.
🏥 Medical Emergency Protocol
- Staff are required to contact Chaitén Hospital.
- An ambulance will be requested, with a minimum response time of 30 minutes, as Chaitén is approximately 30 km away.
- Estimated time to reach the hospital: 1 hour.
- Important: Chaitén Hospital is not equipped for complex cases, so patients may be transferred to Puerto Montt or Osorno.
🩹 Minor Emergencies
For minor issues (such as small cuts, hooks, or minor injuries), the Villa Santa Lucía Health Post is the nearest facility.
🚓 Public Safety
To contact the Chilean police (Carabineros), please visit reception, where our staff can make the call on your behalf.

→ Notify hotel staff immediately.
🚪 3. EVACUATE SAFELY
- Use designated exits (do not use lifts, if any).
- Touch doors with the back of your hand before opening:
- If hot, do not open. Find an alternative exit or wait for instructions.
- If cool, open slowly and evacuate.
🧯 4. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE
- Unless trained and the fire is very small (e.g., a pot).
- When in doubt, do not attempt it. Prioritise your safety and that of others.
🧍♂️ 5. MEET AT THE ASSEMBLY POINT
- Go to the designated meeting area:
→ 📍 Hotel Parking Area
- Do not re-enter until staff give permission.
🔥 If You Are in a Cabin / Room:
- Turn off heaters (if on).
- Take warm clothing, a torch, and documents if safe.
- Close the door when leaving to prevent the fire from spreading.
🐶 Pets
- If your pet is accessible and under control, take it with you.
- Do not re-enter the room if it was left inside.
📢 Final Reminder
All staff are trained in fire evacuation procedures and will activate an immediate response plan.
