🐟 Where and How to Fish at Lake Yelcho
Although Lake Yelcho is recognised as one of Patagonia’s top fishing destinations, the most rewarding way to experience it is with a professional guide. The most spectacular catches usually occur in the interior of the lake, in areas such as Bahía Leones, La Salmonera, or key spots along the Yelcho River.
Those who prefer to fish independently can do so from the shore at any time of year, with success varying depending on the season. Within our property, the most recommended spots are at the mouths of the streams: the pier and camping area, the central stream, the reeds in front of the quincho, and the stream near the cabins.

🎣 Fishing with Our Guides
Lake Yelcho is internationally renowned for the quality and abundance of its salmonids, particularly trout and King Salmon. Because of this, our fishing operation is in high demand, and spots are often booked months in advance, sometimes even a year ahead.
📌 IMPORTANT:
If you do not have a prior reservation, it is unlikely we will be able to provide a guide at short notice.
We apologise for any inconvenience and ask that our staff not be held responsible if a guide is unavailable. We do our best, but demand far exceeds supply.
🕘 Schedule and Options
- Half-day:
Meet at reception at 9:00 am, returning at midday.
- Full day:
Return at midday for rest. Fishing resumes around 2:00 or 3:00 pm, depending on the weather, and finishes between 7:00 and 8:00 pm, depending on the season.
Fishing times and locations are coordinated directly with your guide.
🥤 Food and Drinks
- All trips include alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
- For full-day trips, and if weather permits, a picnic lunch can be organised at scenic spots along the lake or Yelcho River. This incurs an extra cost if not arranged in advance.

🧰 Fishing Equipment
At Yelcho in Patagonia, we provide fishing equipment for guests who do not have their own gear.
🎣 Available Gear
- Fly fishing:
We have two fly fishing kits available for loan. They are primarily set up for trolling from a boat.
- King Salmon (Chinook) fishing:
We also offer special equipment for King Salmon fishing, ready for guests without their own gear.
👕 Recommended Clothing
- Fishing is mostly from boats, so waders are not necessary.
- For rainy or changeable weather, it is recommended to wear layered waterproof clothing, ideally with a rain jacket and trousers.
